Located 22 km southwest of the county seat, the parish of Erada extends over an area of about 4000 hectares, belongs to the diocese of Guarda and is an integral part of the district of Castelo Branco.

As for the toponymy, according to the Lusitana magazine, it comes from the Latin “hederata” which means populated or covered with ivy, however there are other versions.

Patrimony

The old church, according to a stone that appeared during its demolition (on September 30, 1962), was built in 1650.

The Chapel of S. Sebastião was built in 1761. The paintings inside are of great value, from the altarpieces of Santo António, Santa Bárbara, the uniform of São Sebastião (Roman captain), the paintings on the ceiling, the pulpit, the oratory of São Sebastião, in gilded carving, the tabernacle that remains from the old Church, are of incalculable value.

In 1900, the Chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres was built and in 1905 the first party was held, which has been held every year, on the 1st Sunday of September, until today.

On September 10, 1950, Father António Gonçalves, took care of this parish of São Pedro. Seeing the need for a new Church, he joins all efforts in the search for the realization of this project. In this sense, in February 1955, at the initiative of Bairro da Corga, the people of Erada, in a manifestation of unusual love and sacrifice, presented the immortal and historic Processions of Offerings. In December 1960, the works began, and on January 27, 1963 the new and current Church of Erada was solemnly inaugurated.
