PR19 CVL – Miner’s Route

The miner’s route follows old paths that connected two of the main mining centers of the so-called Couto Mineiro da Panasqueira, Barroca Grande and Panasqueira.

They were one of the means of communication for a workforce coming from many neighboring parishes who either worked directly for the mine as salaried employees, or mined on their land as paid workers. It is a linear route, with the possibility of taking a complementary variant for bathing in Ribeira da Cebola, a clear watercourse that comes from the foothills of the Açor mountain range. Bear in mind, however, that the route along this variant involves climbing and descending very steep slopes. Along the route we will find landscapes and abundant testimonies of mining activity, past and present, as several thousand people worked in Couto Mineiro.

TYPE OF ROUTE: linear| APPROXIMATE EXTENSION: 7,5 Km | DEPARTURE AND ARRIVAL POINT: Minas da Panasqueira – Barroca Grande
