The New Hand Lab is a space that promotes creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship through the realization of ideas, products and initiatives. It intends to assume itself as a space for the promotion and dissemination of the most creative endogenous resources and boost Covilhã and Beira Interior in the country and in the world.
The António Estrela factory built on a factory from the 17th century XVII, in 1904 receives an award that honors and distinguishes this factory and why not say the city itself, which gave its recognition abroad, in this case on the other side of the Atlantic, at the Universal Exhibition in St. Luiz, USA this factory has been recognized for years, but in order not to be exhaustive, more contemporary Júlio Afonso receives the “Brillant Pen 1976” creativity recognized by the market itself by its peers.
For some years now, Júlio Afonso’s family has intensified their interest in customs and their talented craftsmen and the idea of supporting them on the one hand and paying tribute to their founder has matured. However, the permanent search to materialize the free and spontaneous creativity of all those who work in the joint project, the Hand Lab was born, which was decided to call New since it is a new space and which is now publicly known through this exhibition 100 % wool, where they pay tribute to the work of Júlio Afonso and consecrate points of sustainability of creative and passionate technology in common.
The ultimate goal is to share with everyone who has a great interest in all this and to motivate them to join this space of free and creative expression.
