Serrano Lagoon and Covão do Boeiro
In this Glacier Valley, two possibilities are proposed, which we leave to the visitor: walk it entirely on the trail and take advantage of the full magnitude of the path or make the journey with an all-terrain vehicle, making it possible to walk along the valley.
Pedestrian path: Duration: 3h30min Distance: 9km
Follow the trail marked on the map around the Tower’s facilities at the back of the Chapel. Go around Poio da Estrela on the right until you reach Lagoa Serrano, passing the macadam road that goes to the Ski Station. Be dazzled by the fauna and flora in the ponds and follow the water course on the right, passing through Covão do Boeiro where you will find another macadam road that takes us to Lagoa do Covão do Meio (a dam that supplies water to the population Loriga). With Loriga’s throat at the front, walk along the walkway, on the rocky wall and go down the stairs to the river.
Cross Covão da Nave and let yourself be taken to Covão da Areia continuing on the trail until Loriga. If on the descent we find smooth and flattened outcrops, on the necessary ascent there is a totally different valley with a large number of abrupt edges resulting from the transport of rocky material across the glacier.
Car Route: Duration: 2h30mim Distance: 9km (4km by road off-road vehicle to Covão do Meio where the route is completed on foot by the pedestrian trail for 5km).
Exit the Tower on the road and turn left towards Seia. Travel about 3km on this road, passing the Ski Station and take the macadam road that descends between rocks and pebbles. Continue to Covão do Meio where from there the walk becomes inevitable. Walk along the walkway in the rocky wall and go down the stairs to the river. Cross Covão da Nave and let yourself be taken to Covão da Areia continuing on the trail until Loriga.
Go all the way back, now in reverse, between the abrupt edges resulting from the transport of rocky material across the glacier.
