It is now possible to get to know the past of the municipality of Covilhã better in a museum where all the periods of occupation of the territory are represented, promoting at the same time a reflection on the present and the future.
Housed in an Art Nouveau building by Ernesto Korrodi, which housed the former premises of the Banco Nacional Ultramarino in the 20th century, the Covilhã Museum is dedicated to presenting the county’s extensive and diverse heritage.
The Museum intends to be a dissemination and playful instrument that, using varied, accessible and inclusive resources, teaches the history of Covilhã to the diversity of the population and visitors – locals and tourists, people with different physical and psychological conditions, of different ages.
20th century Portuguese painting
As part of the art decentralization project developed by Novo Banco Cultura, five Portuguese works from the 20th century, by Eduardo Malta, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva, Arpad Szenes, Júlio Resende and Malangatana, are on display and available to the public at the Covilhã Museum.
Guided tours subject to availability and subject to prior appointment.
Realizasom developed an innovative APP for “smartphones” and “tablets” with contents accessible to visitors with specific needs.
The Covilhã Museum APP is a multimedia guide that offers users the possibility of getting to know Covilhã better, with two circuit proposals: Museum and City.
In the “Museum” circuit, you can learn more about several of the contents presented in the permanent exhibition. On the “City” circuit you can discover the most important built heritage of the city.
The APP is free and available in online stores Google Play (Android) and iTunes (iOS)
